Today we're going to make a quick light on the Pokémon LV.X cards!

In May (in English) and November (in French) 2007, the first set of the Diamond and Pearl block was released, 2-3 months after the release of the games of the same name. Diamond and Pearl marked the end of the ex-block and the beginning of a new mechanic, the LV.X cards. If the Diamond and Pearl games are so popular, it's partly because a lot of fans entered the Pokémon universe when these games were released, and thus also the arrival of the LV.X cards.

Pokémon LV.X cards are a special type of Pokémon found in the Pokémon TCG. Essentially replacing Pokémon-ex, LV.X Pokémon have similar attributes in appearance to their predecessors, with a similar holographic border and similar strength levels, as well as the same rarity level. Today there have been 77 different LV.X cards released. They first appeared in the Diamond and Pearl set and made their last appearance in the Arceus set. The LV.X cards have been released for 2 years as the Arceus set dates back to November 2009. If we had to pick just one LV.X, we would pick Empoleon LV.X. Aside from the fact that we love the artwork, the story behind the card makes it somewhat unforgettable. In case you didn't know, in the initial distributions of the Diamond and Pearl boosters in English, Empoleon was printed with an error. His talent is a Poke-POWER when the erroneous printing said Poke-BODY. The version with error is quite rare today and in perfect condition graded can go up to several hundred euros.

Celebrations pays tribute to Pokemon LV.X cards via the reprint of Luxray and Garchomp LV.X. In the same way as for the Prime, these choices are related to the competitive game. Both Pokémon have played a big role in the competitive card game scene. Again, perhaps Dialga or Uxie could have had a place in the set. In the same way the set also gave birth to a new LV.X: Zacian. It is possible if you still find boxes to get your hands on this card along with a Battle Style booster and two Celebrations boosters!

Thanks for reading and we'll see you next week for a light on Pokémon Dark cards!
